Newest CS2 Cases 2026: Dead Hand, Terminals & What’s Next

By CaseBattles•10/2/2026•7 min read

TL;DR: the newest CS2 container is the Sealed Dead Hand Terminal, released on March 11, 2026. It holds 17 weapon skins and 22 new gloves, the first new gloves since December 2020, and it needs no key: you get up to five offers to buy a skin, and keep only what you pay for. The last classic key-opened case in the weekly drop pool was Kilowatt in February 2024. Since then, new skins have come through Armory cases, terminals, Weekly Care Package collections and Armory collections. As of October 2, 2026, Valve has not announced another case.

Two more 2026 releases are collections rather than containers: Harlequin and Achroma arrived in Weekly Care Packages on January 21, 2026, and the Arabesque and Spy Tech collections joined the Armory on July 9, 2026. The September 22 Rush Hour update added pet chickens and a 3v3 mode, but no new case.

The Dead Hand Terminal Explained

Dead Hand is the release most people mean when they search for the newest CS2 case. It is a terminal, which works differently from a case:

  1. Get a Sealed Dead Hand Terminal from a weekly drop, the Steam Market or a trade.
  2. Open it. No key is needed, so opening itself costs nothing.
  3. The terminal offers you one random item from the Dead Hand Collection at a set price.
  4. Buy it, or skip and see another offer. You get up to five offers.
  5. After you buy or the fifth offer is used, the terminal is gone.

The collection has 17 weapon skins across Mil-Spec, Restricted, Classified and Covert, plus 22 gloves as the rare special items. Reported glove types are Sport, Specialist and Driver Gloves. The gloves are why Dead Hand matters: Broken Fang in December 2020 was the last time new gloves entered the game.

Terminal vs case: the real difference

With a case, you pay for a key and accept whatever drops. With a terminal, you see the item before you pay and can walk away. That makes terminals less of a gamble per offer, but the total cost depends on what you accept, and the rarest offers are still rare. Compare every offer with its market price before you accept. Often the same skin is cheaper on the market, especially a few weeks after release.

Is the Dead Hand Terminal worth opening?

It depends on what you want. A sealed terminal usually trades for a small amount, and opening it costs nothing, so the downside of looking at five offers is low. The catch is that most offers are lower-tier skins, and the glove offers you are hoping for are rare. A sensible rule: decide the skin you want and its market price before you open, accept only offers below that price, and skip everything else. If you just want a specific Dead Hand glove, buying it outright is the only guaranteed route.

Genesis: the First Terminal

Valve tested the format with the Sealed Genesis Terminal on September 17, 2025. It works the same way, with five offers from the 17-skin Genesis Collection, all made by Workshop artists. Genesis proved players would accept a shop-style container, and Dead Hand added gloves to the formula six months later.

Armory Cases: Fever and Gallery

The Gallery Case (October 2024) and Fever Case (March 2025) were released through the Armory, where you redeem them with credits from the $15.99 Armory Pass. They still need a $2.49 key to open, like any classic case. Gallery left the Armory in October 2025 and is now only available on the market. Fever was still listed in the Armory by trackers in August 2026, but it can be retired in any future rotation. See our guide to opening CS2 cases if you have one waiting.

Why New Cases Look Different Now

Three changes since 2024 explain the shift away from classic cases:

  • The Armory moved new collections behind playtime and credits instead of keys.
  • Flat-fee Workshop calls. In 2026 Valve started paying Workshop artists fixed fees per accepted design ($35,000 per weapon finish, as reported) instead of a share of case sales, so new collections no longer depend on a case being opened.
  • Knife and glove trade-ups. Since October 2025, five Covert skins can be traded up into a knife or gloves from the collection of one of the inputs. Rare items now have a route that does not involve opening anything.

What’s the Next New CS2 Case?

No new case or terminal has been announced. The best clue is Call II Arms-ory, the Workshop call Valve opened on July 16, 2026, which asks for a Fairy Tales weapon collection and Cryptids and Pop Art sticker collections. Valve has not said whether those designs will ship through the Armory, a terminal or a case, and no deadline was published, so there is no reliable date. The last call’s designs shipped about four months after its deadline.

Until then, Dead Hand remains the newest container and Kilowatt the newest classic case.

Open Cases Without Waiting for Valve

Valve releases containers a couple of times a year. Case sites work the other way round: every case is built from existing skins, with its odds and contents shown before you open. On CaseBattles you can browse cases from budget to knife-tier, or start a battle and race other players for the pot. Results are provably fair and skins withdraw to Steam.
