Case Battle Statistics: Data From 2,876 Real CS2 Battles

Updated · 2,876 battles from April 23, 2026 to October 19, 2026 · refreshed automatically

A case battle looks like pure luck: everyone opens the same cases and the highest total takes every skin. We went through every finished real-money battle on CaseBattles.gg to see what actually happens: which formats people pick, how battles are won, what a typical battle costs and which cases get battled most.

Key findings

  • The biggest single drop usually decides it. In 83.8% of Normal-mode battles, the side that pulled the single most valuable item went on to win.
  • Early leads are fragile. In battles of three or more rounds, the player or team leading after round one lost 38% of the time.
  • Close finishes are common. 15.7% of Normal battles were won by less than 5% of the winner's total.
  • 3v3 is the most played format at 27.7% of battles; team formats (2v2, 2v2v2, 3v3) make up 50.5% in total.
  • Battles are short and cheap. The median battle runs 3 rounds with an entry of 5.19 gems and a total pot of 28.74 gems.
  • Crazy mode is popular: 26% of battles flipped the goal so the lowest total wins.

Most popular case battle formats

Solo formats put every player against everyone else; team formats add teammates' totals together and split the pot. Group battles pay everyone an equal share.

Game modes

Normal pays the highest total, Terminal counts only the last case, Jackpot turns totals into weighted tickets for one draw, and Group splits the pot. Crazy is a toggle on top of Normal, Terminal and Jackpot that makes the lowest total win; 26% of all battles used it.

How case battles are won

These figures use Normal-mode battles without Crazy (1,479 battles), where the highest total wins outright, so "winning" means the same thing in every one of them.

83.8%
won by the side with the single biggest drop
38%
round-one leader lost (711 battles of 3+ rounds)
15.7%
decided by under 5% of the winning total

In other words, a case battle is mostly a race to the one rare pull: steady mid-value drops rarely beat a single big hit. It also means an early lead says little about the result, which is why longer battles swing so often.

What a typical battle looks like

5.19 gems
median entry per player
28.74 gems
median total pot
3
median rounds (cases per player)
30
longest battle, in rounds

The average battle runs 4.7 rounds. Medians are used for money because a handful of very large battles would drag an average far above what a normal battle costs.

Methodology

  • Source: every finished case battle played with gems (the site's real-money balance) on CaseBattles.gg from April 23, 2026 to October 19, 2026. Free-play (coins) battles and daily free-case battles are excluded.
  • Empty seats can be filled with bots at the creator's request; bot seats open the same cases with the same provably fair rolls, so they are included.
  • Outcome figures (biggest drop, comebacks, close finishes) use Normal mode without Crazy and exclude draws. Item values are the prices shown in the battle at the time it was played.
  • Every battle result comes from Random.org with signed seeds and can be checked on its battle page; see how provably fair works.
  • The report recalculates automatically, so numbers move as new battles finish.
