TL;DR: no CS2 case has better knife odds than another. Every official weapon case drops a knife or gloves 0.26% of the time, roughly 1 in 385 opens. What changes from case to case is which knives and finishes it holds, and how much each open costs you. Pick the case for the knife you actually want, then for the price.
If you want the cases ranked by value instead, our best CS2 cases to open page lists the official cases with the best expected return and the cheapest knife chance per dollar, updated from Steam market prices.
Knife Odds Are the Same in Every Case
Valve published one rarity table for weapon cases, and every case uses it: 79.92% Mil-Spec, 15.98% Restricted, 3.20% Classified, 0.64% Covert and 0.26% for the gold tier, which is a knife in knife cases and gloves in glove cases. An old case does not hide better odds, and an expensive case does not buy you a better roll. The full breakdown is on our CS2 case odds page.
That 0.26% is shared across every knife and finish in the case. A case that holds five knife types in six finishes splits the gold chance across all of them, so landing one specific knife in one specific finish is far rarer than 1 in 385. A case with a single knife type, like the Huntsman or Kukri cases, gives that one knife the whole gold slot.
Which Cases Drop Which Knives
Valve groups knife finishes into sets, and each case pairs a set with one or more knife types. This table covers the knife cases in our simulator data. Glove cases are listed separately below.
| Knives | Finish set | Cases |
|---|---|---|
| Bayonet, Flip, Gut, Karambit, M9 Bayonet | Original (Fade, Case Hardened, Crimson Web, Slaughter, Blue Steel and others) | CS:GO Weapon Case 1 to 3, Bravo, Winter Offensive, Phoenix, Vanguard, eSports 2013, eSports 2013 Winter, eSports 2014 Summer, Revolver |
| Bayonet, Flip, Gut, Karambit, M9 Bayonet | Chroma (Doppler, Marble Fade, Tiger Tooth, Damascus Steel, Ultraviolet, Rust Coat) | Chroma, Chroma 2, Chroma 3 |

| Bowie, Butterfly, Falchion, Huntsman, Shadow Daggers | Gamma | Operation Riptide, Dreams & Nightmares |
| Huntsman / Butterfly / Falchion / Shadow Daggers / Bowie (one each) | Original | Huntsman, Operation Breakout, Falchion, Shadow, Operation Wildfire |
| Navaja, Stiletto, Talon, Ursus | Original / Chroma | Horizon, Danger Zone (Original); Prisma, Prisma 2 (Chroma) |

Chroma finishes: Doppler and Marble Fade
The Chroma set is where most of the famous knives live. Doppler comes in Phase 1 to 4 plus the rare Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl variants, all under one item name, so two Dopplers of the same knife can be worth very different amounts. Marble Fade and Tiger Tooth only exist in the lowest-wear grades, which keeps them looking clean. If you are chasing a Doppler, the Chroma cases cover the classic knives, Spectrum covers the Butterfly and friends, and Prisma and Fever cover the newer models.
Gamma finishes: Gamma Doppler and Lore
The Gamma set swaps in Gamma Doppler (Phase 1 to 4 and Emerald), Lore, Autotronic, Black Laminate, Bright Water and Freehand. Gamma and Gamma 2 carry it for the Karambit, M9 and the other original knives; Operation Riptide and Dreams & Nightmares carry it for the Butterfly, Huntsman, Falchion, Bowie and Shadow Daggers.
Original finishes: Fade, Case Hardened, Crimson Web
The original set is the oldest: Fade, Case Hardened, Crimson Web, Slaughter, Blue Steel and the camo finishes, plus the plain vanilla knife. Case Hardened is the home of blue gem patterns, and Fade knives are graded by how much of the blade shows the full fade. The single-knife cases (Huntsman, Breakout, Falchion, Shadow, Wildfire) and the Kukri cases (Kilowatt, Gallery) all use this set.
Glove Cases Drop Gloves, Not Knives
The Glove Case, Operation Hydra, Clutch, Revolution, Operation Broken Fang, Snakebite and Recoil cases put gloves in the gold slot instead of knives, at the same 0.26%. If you specifically want a knife, skip these; if you want Sport or Driver Gloves, they are the only official route.
How to Pick a Knife Case
- Start with the knife and finish you want. Use the table above to narrow it to two or three cases.
- Then compare the cost per open. Case plus key is what you pay each time. Since the gold chance is fixed, a cheaper case gives you more 0.26% rolls for the same budget.
- Count how many knives share the slot. One knife type means every gold pull is that knife; five types means one in five, on average, is the one you wanted.
- Expect variance inside a finish. Wear, Doppler phase, fade percentage and pattern can move a knife's value a long way. StatTrak adds a separate roll, widely estimated at about 1 in 10.
What to Expect From a Knife Case
Plan for the long run, not the dream pull. At 0.26% per open you have about a 63% chance of at least one gold item after 385 cases, and it takes around 1,151 cases to get to 95%. Most opens return a Mil-Spec skin worth a fraction of the cost, and on Steam prices the average case returns less than it costs to open. A knife case is entertainment with a very rare upside, so set a budget before you start and treat anything above it as off limits.
Test a Case in the Simulator First
Our free CS2 case simulator rolls every official case on Valve's published odds, with each case's full contents and current Steam values. Pick a case, open 1, 5, 10, 25, 100 or 1,000 at once, and watch how rarely gold shows up and what the typical open is worth. It is a demo: nothing is won or lost, and it is the cheapest way to feel what 1 in 385 actually looks like.
Knife Cases on CaseBattles
CaseBattles cases are built by the site rather than Valve, so their odds are set item by item and shown on every case page before you open. Results are provably fair and can be checked after each open. If you take a knife case into a battle, the odds of each open stay the same; only who keeps the drops changes.
Bottom Line
There is no best case for knife odds, only the best case for the knife you want at the price you are willing to pay per roll. Narrow it down with the table, compare costs on the best CS2 cases page, and try it in the simulator before spending anything. Gambling carries real risk: only stake what you can afford to lose and never chase a loss. 18+ only. Play responsibly. Tools to set limits are on our responsible gaming page.
Frequently asked questions
Which CS2 case has the best knife odds?
None. Every official weapon case drops a knife or gloves 0.26% of the time, about 1 in 385 opens. Cases differ in which knives and finishes they hold and in what they cost to open.
Which case drops Doppler knives?
Cases with the Chroma finish set: Chroma, Chroma 2 and Chroma 3 (Karambit, M9, Bayonet, Flip, Gut), Spectrum and Spectrum 2 (Butterfly, Huntsman, Falchion, Bowie, Shadow Daggers), Prisma and Prisma 2, and the Fever Case.
Does the Revolution Case drop knives?
No. Its gold slot holds gloves, like the Glove, Hydra, Clutch, Broken Fang, Snakebite and Recoil cases.
Is a cheaper case better for getting a knife?
Per dollar, yes: the knife chance is the same in every case, so a cheaper open buys more chances. Per open, no case is better than another.
