CS2 Upgrader
CS2 Upgrader Guide: Odds, Formula and Examples
The CS2 upgrader trades a gem stake for a chance at a more expensive skin. You pick the target, the site shows your exact win chance before you roll, and one provably fair roll decides the result. This guide covers the formula the server uses, a worked example and what the numbers mean for your balance.
How the CS2 upgrader works
You stake gems and pick one or more target skins worth more than your stake. The multiplier is the target value divided by your stake, and the upgrader turns that multiplier into a win chance before you roll. You can choose whether the win zone sits at the low end (roll under) or the high end (roll over) of the wheel; that only moves the zone, the chance is the same either way.
If the roll lands in the win zone you can keep the skin (withdraw it to Steam) or sell it back for its value plus 1%. If it misses, you lose the stake. There is no partial refund.
The exact chance formula
Chance = (100 ÷ multiplier) × 0.90. A fair upgrade would pay 1 ÷ multiplier; the 0.90 is the 10% house edge, applied the same way on every roll. These are the rules the server enforces:
- 10% edge when you keep the skin.
- Selling a won skin pays its value plus 1% (the sell premium), so the edge on a sold win is about 9.1%.
- The smallest multiplier you can pick is 1.04×, which gives the highest chance: 0.90 ÷ 1.04 ≈ 86.54%.
- The lowest chance the server accepts is 0.1%, which is a multiplier of 900×.
Worked example
You stake 10 gems on a skin worth 25 gems. The multiplier is 25 ÷ 10 = 2.5×, so your chance is (100 ÷ 2.5) × 0.90 = 36%. If you win you can keep the 25-gem skin or sell it for 25 × 1.01 = 25.25 gems. Over many rolls the average return is 0.36 × 25 = 9 gems if you keep (a 1 gem loss per 10 staked) or 0.36 × 25.25 ≈ 9.09 gems if you sell.
| Stake | Target value | Multiplier | Win chance | Average return (keep) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 gems | 10.4 gems | 1.04× | 86.54% | 9 gems |
| 10 gems | 20 gems | 2× | 45% | 9 gems |
| 10 gems | 25 gems | 2.5× | 36% | 9 gems |
| 10 gems | 100 gems | 10× | 9% | 9 gems |
| 10 gems | 1000 gems | 100× | 0.9% | 9 gems |
The average return is 9 gems per 10 staked on every row. The multiplier changes how often you win and how much, not the long-run cost.
Strategy notes, honestly
The expected value of every upgrade is negative: on average you get back 90% of your stake when you keep the skin and about 92.25% when you sell. No target, roll side or timing changes that, because the chance is computed from the multiplier alone.
- Chaining small upgrades costs more than one big one. Two 2× upgrades in a row win 46.25% × 46.25% ≈ 21.39% of the time; a single 4× upgrade wins 23.13%. The edge is charged on every roll.
- Selling a won skin returns 1% more than keeping it, if you do not need that exact skin.
- High chances mean frequent small wins; low chances mean rare large ones. Pick the variance you are comfortable with, not a "system".
- Set a budget before you start and stop when it is gone. Coins mode lets you try the upgrader with no real value at stake.

Provably fair: check any roll
Each upgrade is settled from a signed Random.org seed combined with your client seed, and the Upgrader's provably fair panel shows the seed data for the roll you just made. You can recompute the result on the fairness page; the provably fair guide explains the method step by step.

Upgrader FAQ
What is a CS2 upgrader?
A CS2 upgrader trades a gem stake for a chance at a more expensive skin. You pick the target skin, the site shows your exact win chance before you roll, and one provably fair roll decides whether you win it or lose the stake.
How does the skin upgrader work?
Stake gems and pick one or more target skins worth more than your stake; the multiplier is the target value divided by your stake, and it sets your win chance. If the roll lands in the win zone you can keep the skin or sell it back for its value plus 1%. If it misses, you lose the stake.
How is the CS2 upgrader chance calculated?
Chance = (100 ÷ multiplier) × 0.90, where the multiplier is the target skin value divided by your stake. A 2× upgrade is 45%, a 10× upgrade is 9%. The chance is shown before you roll.
What is the house edge on the upgrader?
10% when you keep the skin you win. Selling a won skin pays its value plus 1%, which brings the edge on a sold win to about 9.1%.
What is the highest chance I can pick?
About 86.54%, at the minimum multiplier of 1.04×. The lowest chance the server accepts is 0.1%, a 900× multiplier.
Is there a winning upgrader strategy?
No. The expected value of every roll is negative: on average you get back 90% of your stake if you keep the skin and about 92.25% if you sell. Chaining small upgrades is worse than one larger upgrade because the edge applies on each roll.
Is the CS2 skin upgrader fair?
Yes. Each roll is settled from a signed Random.org seed combined with your client seed, and you can check the result on the fairness page. The chance formula, including the 10% house edge, is published and your chance is shown before you roll.
Is this a CSGO upgrader too?
Yes. CS2 replaced CSGO in 2023 and kept the same skins, so the CS2 upgrader is the CSGO upgrader under its new name. Every skin you win is a real CS2 skin you can withdraw to Steam.
