CS2 M14: The New Rifle Found in the Game Files (Everything We Know)

By CaseBattles•10/8/2026•6 min read

Last updated: October 8, 2026. Nothing here is confirmed by Valve yet. We will refresh this page as soon as that changes.

Counter-Strike 2 may be getting its first new gun in years. Files shipped with the Rush Hour update contain a weapon internally called the M14, a scoped rifle with a price tag and damage numbers that put it right next to the AWP. It is not in Valve’s patch notes, you cannot equip it, and there is no release date. Here is everything that is actually in the files, kept separate from what we think it means.

What Dataminers Found in the Rush Hour Files

The Rush Hour update landed in late September 2026 with pet chickens and the 3v3 Rush mode. Buried in the same files were references to a weapon called M14. Dataminers aqua and Thour shared the find on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, the day after the update went live.

A few things are clear. The M14 is not mentioned anywhere in Valve’s patch notes. It cannot be used in game, not in matchmaking, not in community servers, not in any mode. And Valve has said nothing about it: no confirmation that it exists as a planned weapon, and no word on whether it is meant for competitive play, a single game mode, or simply internal testing. As of October 6, 2026, only a handful of creators had covered it, so most players still have not heard of it.

CS2 M14 Datamined Stats vs the AWP and SSG 08

The weapon’s entry in weapons.vdata lists a price of $4,100, base damage of 115, a 4x headshot multiplier and a $100 kill reward. It holds 5 rounds with 5 more in reserve and fires .338 ammunition, the same caliber family as the AWP. Armor ratio is 1.95 and penetration is 2.5.

It is classified as a rifle with an aiming (scoped) mechanic, including sight raise and lower values and a setting that drops you out of the aimed view after each shot. Reloading is single shell, meaning rounds go in one at a time rather than as a full magazine swap. The model path is weapon_rif_m14.vmdl with its own skeleton, and the firing sound points to the AWP single-shot sound event, which is most likely a placeholder. One caveat: early reports said the M14 held one round before reloading, but the fuller config shows five. None of these numbers are final.

On paper the M14 matches the AWP’s base damage, costs $650 less, and carries far less spare ammo. Against the SSG 08 it costs much more but hits a lot harder.

What We Think: Where the M14 Would Fit

Everything in this section is our speculation, not data. Treat it as an informed guess until Valve shows the real thing.

A $4,100 scoped rifle sits neatly between the $1,700 SSG 08 and the $4,750 AWP, which suggests a heavy sniper option for rounds where the full AWP buy is just out of reach. A 4x headshot multiplier on 115 base damage would very likely mean one-shot headshots, even through a helmet, and the high armor ratio hints that body shots on armored players would still hurt. Final damage falloff and armor values could change all of that, though.

The single-shell reload is the most interesting detail. Feeding rounds in one at a time, combined with only 5 spare rounds, points to a deliberate, slower weapon that punishes missed shots. Possible roles we can imagine: a cheaper AWP alternative for one side, a weapon built for a specific mode such as Rush or Arms Race, or a test asset that never ships at all. We genuinely do not know which side could buy it, how the scope works, or whether it will ever reach competitive play.

Is There a CS2 M14 Release Date?

No. There is no release date, no teaser and no official mention. Valve often ships assets well before they go live, and sometimes never uses them. For context, if the M14 does arrive it would be the first brand-new weapon since the MP5-SD, which joined CS:GO in August 2018 as an alternative to the MP7. Before that, the last new gun was the R8 Revolver in December 2015. New weapons are rare, which is exactly why this find is getting attention. The safest bet is to watch Valve’s patch notes after each update; we will update this page when anything changes.

What It Means for Skins

Right now, nothing. No M14 skins, finishes or cases have been datamined. History does point one way, though: every weapon added to Counter-Strike eventually got its own finishes, and a new weapon would mean new case contents somewhere down the line.

Until then, you can get a feel for how current case contents and drop rarities work in our free CS2 case simulator, which is free to use. If you would rather see what is in today’s collections, you can browse the full list of CS2 cases on CaseBattles.

Frequently asked questions

Is the M14 in CS2?

Only in the game files. Dataminers found an M14 rifle in files shipped with the Rush Hour update, but it cannot be used in game and Valve has not confirmed it.

When is the CS2 M14 release date?

There is no release date. The weapon is not in Valve’s patch notes and Valve has not said if or when it will be added.

What are the CS2 M14 stats?

The datamined config lists a $4,100 price, 115 base damage, a 4x headshot multiplier, a 5-round magazine with 5 in reserve, .338 ammo and single-shell reloading. These stats are not final.

Will the M14 have skins?

No M14 skins have been found in the files yet. Every past weapon added to Counter-Strike eventually received finishes, but nothing is confirmed for the M14.
